Holidays in Sa Caleta

Spain Main Guide | Menorca Main Guide

Located on the Spanish island of Menorca, Sa Caleta is a quiet and relaxing resort with excellent beaches and benefiting from the balmy local climate. The resort is very popular with families and has relatively little in the way of night life.

Menorca is one of just over 400 sites designated as 'Biosphere Reserves' by international treaty, and it is not hard to see why. The island is extremely beautiful and unspoiled by human activity even though it is a popular holiday destination.

The resort itself has little in the way of nightlife but boasts a range of shops and Spanish restaurants. For those wanting to venture further afield, car hire is available or the local bus service can be used. This is cheap and efficient, with extra buses laid on at busy times. Alternatively, it is possible to walk to Cuidadella in about half and hour.

Accommodation and Food

Sa Caleta offers a range of hotels, many of which have entertainment available. Hotels are very clean and well run, and many have their own pool. Many visitors find that the apartments are rather small, though they are clean and very welcoming.

The resort has a range of food available, from various nations as well as local specialties. Seafood is very popular. Some restaurants are quite novel; visitors can feed the fish in the sea from their table.

Activities

Obviously the climate and the marvellous beaches are a big attraction, but Sa Caleta has more to offer. Many of the hotels offer day and night-time entertainment, and nearby Cuidadella has much to offer including shops selling traditional local crafts and antique jewellery, plus a Salsa club.

Cuidadella is also the destination of choice if the nightlife in Sa Caleta leaves something to be desired. The town has several bars and discos to choose from.

Diving among the rocks at one end of the beach is a popular activity. Menorca's biosphere is extremely varied and here a diver can swim among many species of brightly-coloured fish. For the more adventurous, boat trips around the nearby coves are available from Cuidadella, some of which include swimming and snorkelling with lunch provided.

Elsewhere on the island, sailing and windsurfing are extremely popular at Fornells bay. Being almost completely enclosed, the bay has no waves and is ideal as a learning environment. There is also a golf course at Son Parc, which features tuition and equipment hire. Son Parc also offers horse riding and tennis.

Activities organised at the hotels include quizzes, bingo and a kids' club, plus water polo and water-volleyball. More adventurous spirits can find a water park and go-karting a short bus ride away.

Like other resorts on Menorca, La Caleta is more geared to the family or couple who want to get away from it all than to those who want to live it up. It is a relaxing and very safe destination that sees a great many return visits.
