Stunning beaches and fantastic
nightlife, Ibiza has a large selection of great nightclubs and deserves its reputation as one of the worlds leading party islands.
The island has over 50 beaches and there are loads
of other tourist attractions that don't involve
drinking and dancing. With over 300 days of sunshine
every year and mild winters this is a great place
to relax and get tanned while waiting for the
night life to come alive. During July and August,
the weather is both hot and sunny and you generally
get around 11 hours of sun each day, more than
enough for a great tan.
Its not really a surprise that the Guinness book
of world records listed it as "the entertainment
island of the world" as it houses some legendary
nightclubs. Amnesia and Pacha started the whole
super club revolution catering for thousands.
Privilege is now the largest nightclub and when
it is full, holds around 10,000 guests - now that's
a party! Watch out for the Admission charges though
and the expensive drinks. There's nothing worse
than running out of money when there's still 4
hours to go. You may want to take a towel as well
as the dance floors are often filled with foam.
The smaller clubs are cheaper and there are loads
of them but a night at one of the large clubs
is an experience you will want to try.
There are loads of places to stay from budget
lodging to luxury accommodation in Ibiza, both
on the seafront and inland. You must book early
however as this destination is so popular that
the best places are fully booked months in advance.

Ibiza town is the largest and most beautiful
town on the island and includes a stunning cathedral
and loads of great restaurants and bars. If you
need to get around, there are plenty of taxis
all over the place. If you do decide to drive
however, remember that spanish motorists drive
fast and brake late, so be careful not to slow
down too quickly and keep an eye out at junctions!
Many people use scooters to travel round however
during the week there is an excellent bus service
which is a much safer alternative.
Sightseeing
There is definitely something for everyone to
see with a wide variety of places to visit and
things to do. Obviously the nightclubs and bars
are what many visitors are interested in but families
and couples may want to visit the famous Cova
d'es Culleram, a large cave which was a temple
to the goddess Tanoit. Ponyland is a real treat
for younger children or a trip to the Es Vedrá
Rock at sunset for couples looking for a romantic
experience.
Shopping
If you are looking for a gift or just want to
browse for hours then Paseo Vara de Rey is a popular
place to visit and has many shops, including designer
clothes outlets and beach accessories. Some shops
in Ibiza do close between 14:00 to 17:00, for
the Spanish afternoon siesta (lucky for some)
so you may want to plan your shopping for the
morning There are a large number of small, interesting
shops all over the island that offer a wide range
of souvenirs. The best selection is usually in
the historic areas and near to the beaches and
harbours. If you find the time then hunt out one
of the local markets that open daily in the tourist
season.
Activities
Ibiza is an excellent place for beginners to
enjoy windsurfing and pick up some of the basic
techniques as the wind conditions are not to extreme.
You will find plenty of places that can give lessons
in windsurfing and that hire equipment. Sailing
and fishing are both popular activities and almost
every coastal town has its own marina. You can
charter a boat for as little as an hour or join
one of the many sightseeing trips around the island.
Scuba diving and snorkeling conditions are excellent
and there are many places offering courses for
beginners. Most beaches employ lifeguards and
have excellent facilities however they will get
busy so go early to get the best places.
There are loads of places to hire bikes and a
large number of interesting trails to take them
on. Biking is an excellent way to explore the
island although you may want to consider horse
riding as an interesting alternative.
Food
There are loads of restaurants with some delicious
food available, the food is based on a combination
of fresh produce and home cooking and the quality
is generally high. Keep an eye out for the Tapas
bars serving small portions of a large variety
of traditional and non traditional meals. You
will get a large selection including snails, deep-fried
squid, mushrooms, baby eels, tripe, prawns, cold
potato omelette, meatballs, potato salad, olives,
cheeses, cold meats and tortillas. Many restaurants
stay open past twelve and it is considered quite
normal to eat out after 9pm at night.
Beaches
Some of the best beaches in Ibiza can be found
to the south-east of the island, between Santa
Eularia des Riu and Cala de Santa Vicent. With
over 30 km of beach to choose from your more than
spoiled for choice. Just remember to get a spot
early to beat the crowds or be prepared to travel
a little further a field to miss the crowds.
